The smart car of the future...?

Just read this in the FT.

"Cars connected to the internet and seamlessly integrated with personal communication devices are seen as the harbingers of vehicles that can drive themselves, mobile offices and “mobility solutions” for cities where all vehicles are controlled or monitored from a central database."

So, in the future, I'm expected to work at the office, from home and in my mobile office, too...
Gives a whole new meaning to being a wage-slave...

While some of the tech sounds nice, a car that drives itself isn't remotely appealing and is just begging to be hacked... Gives a whole new meaning to the concept of a computer-crash, too. The old Blue-Screen-of-Death will really be just that...

Cars that are controlled from a central command centre (no doubt called Skynet), sounds like the beginning of a bad Michael Bay movie (bad example, all his movies are bad). The central command centre/dystopian government, that knows exactly where you are, with whom and when, at all times; is just sinister. Coupled to the voyeuristic powers of the NSA/GCHQ et.al, and it is also, creepy.

Those that know me, know that I love cars and driving, so I take this fairly personally. I also hate blanket surveillance - get probable cause and apply targeted surveillance of a known/named target based on a warrant. Leave the rest of us alone.
